Ballinagore 1986 Champions - Silver Anniversary Celebration

Silver Anniversary of 1986 Winning Sides
Saturday, 12th November, saw  the reunion of a group of players and management who were the springboard for the success of Ballinagore GAA club over the past quarter of a century. In 1986 they reclaimed the Junior championship for the first time in forty-six years and kick started a very successful period in our clubs ninety-one year history. In that year they also won the Junior B championship and Junior Cup titles, with many believing that the Junior B success in September was the impetus for the Junior success which followed in October.

The evening began with a screening of the final which was viewed with great interest by all and this was followed by the presentations, which included a commemorative booklet of the year along with a DVD of the finals and a specially commissioned trophy marking the silver anniversary. Music followed with conversation and crack long into the night, and it was wonderful to see the respect that the new generation showed for those who set the ball rolling all those years ago. A moment was taken to remember those who have passed since that time and who contributed so much to the clubs' success.

Westmeath GAA were represented by Chairman, Tom Farrell and Secretary, Pat Lynagh, while former Westmeath Chairman and Ballinagore footballer Seamus Whelan, who presented the cup to captain Jim  Mahon in 1986, was also present. Well done to MC Martin McCann and the organising committee who did a splendid job and made sure that a fitting tribute was paid to this remarkable team.
