2005 Football League and Cup Match Reports

ACL Division 3, 14th January 2006 (Carried over)

Ballinagore 0-09  Castletown/Finea/Coole/Whitehall 1-08

We played CFCW last Saturday in this league fixture in Castletown Geoghegan. Ballinagore were depleted going into this fixture and started the game minus five of our six starting forwards from the Leinster final but the lads that came in certainly put it up to our opponents. We played with the aid of a lively breeze in the first half and dominated possession slightly in this half but despite fine points, especially two from midfielders Stuart Gavin and Marty Linnane, we only led by one at the interval, 0-05 to 0-04. In the second half, our lads got stuck in well. With the breeze, CFCW equalised and went ahead minutes later. However we battled back well to go back in front after the midway point in the second half. At this stage, an shot for a point by CFCW sneaked in under the cross bar into the top corner for a fortuitous goal to give them a two point lead, 1-06 to 0-07. Ballinagore battled gamely for the remainder of the game and we had numerous chances to score but could only manage two more points and our opponents held our for the win. Team: Paddy Maloney, Peter Deegan, Louis Ennis, Enda McCann, Ciaran Deegan, Peter Heraty, Pat Heduan, Marty Linnane, Stuart Gavin, Cathal Ennis, Eoin Miller, Eddie Quinlan, Ian Seery, Ciaran Carey, James Sheerin. Subs used: Shane Heraty, Jason Winfield, Thomas McDaniels.

ACL Division 3, 17th October 2005

Ballinagore 1-09 Milltown 0-07

We had a hard earned win over Milltown in this league game played last Sunday morning in Ballinagore. This was a physical contest throughout with Ballinagore holding onto their lead from midway through the first half til the end. A goal from the penalty spot in the second half by Michael Ennis put the result firmly in our favour. We would like to thank Milltown for the guard of honour they provided to our lads as they emerged from the dressing rooms before the game. We also wish Danny Maloney a speedy recovery from the nasty injury he picked up during this game. Team: Paddy Maloney, Peter Deegan, Enda McCann, Pat Heduan, Eddie Quinlan, Peter Heraty, Danny Maloney, Stuart Gavin, Marty Linnane, Shane Heraty, Ian Seery, Ciaran Carey, Ger Linnane, Michael Ennis, Michael Maloney. Subs: Sean Robinson, Darren Ennis, Declan Claffey, Jason Winfield, Gerry Claffey.

ACL Division 3, 19th September 2005

Ballinagore 1-11 Ballymore 0-07

We travelled to Ballymore on Sunday 18th September to play the home side in the league. The conditions were good but there was a very strong breeze. The home side must be commended on the job they have done on their pitch as the playing surface is excellent. When they have finished the rest of their work, Ballymore will have a very impressive setup indeed. Ballinagore played with the aid of the strong breeze in the first half but Ballymore applied all the pressure in the first few minutes and took the first score after seven minutes. We responded well and kicked the next three points before Ballymore registered their second score. The last ten minutes of this half were to prove crucial as we scored 1-03 without response with James Durkan getting the all important goal following a clever flick down by Michael Ennis following a long delivery from Eoin Miller. Half time score was 1-06 to 0-02 in our favour. We knew we had a battle on our hands in the second half and this is exactly how it transpired as gradually the home side whittled away at our lead to leave just the goal between the sides going into the final ten minutes. However, Ballymore were reduced to fourteen men at this stage and this extra space allowed us to get the ball more effeciently into our forwards and we tagged on a few late points to put the result firmly in our favour. Team: Paddy Maloney, Enda McCann, Louis Ennis, Pat Heduan, Peter Deegan, Peter Heraty, Ciaran Deegan, Stewart Gavin, Marty Linnane, Eoin Miller, Ciaran Carey, Cathal Ennis, James Durkan, Michael Ennis, Ger Linnane. Subs: Shane Heraty, Ian Seery, Jason Winfield, Darren Ennis, Mark Claffey.

Junior Cup Final, 29th August 2005

Ballinagore 2-12 Loughnavalley 1-05

Our Junior football team won their first bit of silverware for a long time with a well deserved win over Loughnavalley in the final of the Junior cup last Saturday evening in Loughnavalley. We were in control of this game right from the start with our forward line giving the Loughnavalley defense a torrid time and picking off some fine scores including a scorcher of a goal from our young corner forward, James Durkan, and another fine goal from county star, Michael Ennis. These scores came in the first half and they really sealed the result in our favour as Ballinagore held a comfortable 2-07 to 0-02 lead at the short whistle. To their credit, Loughnavalley did raise their performance in the second half and managed a few good scores against a strong Ballinagore back line but we were able to pick off some nice points to keep our half time gap intact and indeed we were unlucky not to have bagged had another goal or two, none more so than Ciaran Carey whose effort came back off the post after a fine move which started from a clearance from goalkeeper Paddy Maloney. The final whistle was greeted enthuastically by the large crowd from Ballinagore in attendance and the cup was presented to both Louis Ennis, vice captain, and Eoin Miller, captain, who couldn't play but is well on the road to recovery after knee surgery. Both players commended our opponents on a fine game of football and urged our own side to keep sight of the bigger prize that lies ahead. This was a fine team performance with every one on the team giving terrific displays of hunger, passion and no little skill. If we can maintain this level of play we could have a major say in where the ultimate prize in Junior football lands this year so it's important now to keep the heads and concentrate on training over the next few weeks. Well done to all the team and panel and also to manager, Sean Robinson and his selectors, Liam McDaniels and Martin Seery on landing our first reason for celebration of the year, hopefully more to come. Team: Paddy Maloney, Enda McCann, Louis Ennis, Pat Heduan, Peter Deegan, Peter Heraty, Ciaran Deegan, Stewart Gavin, Marty Linnane, Eddie Quinlan, Ciaran Carey, Cathal Ennis, James Durkan, Michael Ennis, Ger Linnane. Subs: Shane Heraty, Jason Winfield, Michael Maloney, Declan Claffey, Darren Ennis, Sean Delaney, Mark Claffey.

Junior Cup Semi Final, 15th August 2005

Ballinagore 0-13 St. Pauls 2-05

We avenged our recent championship defeat to the same opposition with a good win in the semi final of the cup competition played last Saturday evening in Ballinagore. This was a competitive and sporting game throughout with Ballinagore putting in a battling performance to pick off vital scores after being knocked back by two cracking goals to keep St. Pauls in contention. Great credit must go to our defense who held St. Pauls to one score in the second half. But our midfield and forwards all worked very hard on the evening and our victory was well deserved. This win sets us up with an interesting local derby clash in the final against Loughnavally who defeated Ballycomoyle in the other semi final. Team: Paddy Maloney, Enda McCann, Peter Deegan, Pat Heduan, Louis Ennis, Peter Heraty, Ciaran Deegan, Stuart Gavin, Eddie Quinlan, Cathal Ennis, Ciaran Carey, Shane Heraty, Ger Linnane, Michael Ennis, James Durkan. Subs: Jason Winfield (for C Carey), Darren Ennis, Mark Claffey, Sean Delaney.

ACL Division 3, 11th April 2005

Ballinagore 2-12 Mullingar Shamrocks 2-07

We picked up our first brace of points in this league game played last Friday evening in Ballinagore. This was a hard fought but well deserved victory over a game town side. Two well taken first half goals by Michael Ennis and Ger Linnane set us up for this win but a goal towards the end of this half kept Shamrocks in contention. The expected fightback didn't materialise in the second half and we increased our lead to lead 2-09 to 1-05 midway through the second half. Another goal by Shamrocks rocked us a little but the team responded well with two quick points and held out for victory. Team: Danny Maloney, Ciaran Deegan, Enda McCann, Pat Heduan, Louis Ennis, Marty Linnane, Pierce Corcoran, Eoin Miller, Peter Deegan, Eddie Quinlan, Michael Ennis, Ciaran Carey, Cathal Ennis, Ger Linnane, Michael Maloney. ACL Division 3, 11th December 2005

Ballinagore 0-08 The Downs 0-12

We had a disappointing result last Sunday in The Downs when we went down by four points to the hosts in this league fixture. Both teams fielded minus a few regulars but two strong sides still took to the field and produced some entertaining football over the hour. The first half was evenly contested with the sides swapping points most of the way through until The Downs opened up a two point lead just before the short whistle. Half time score was Ballinagore 0-05, The Downs 0-07. The third quarter was where Ballinagore lost this game. We had the opening three attacks of the second half but failed to register a score. After that, The Downs dominated for the next ten minutes and increased their lead to six points, 0-11 to 0-05. Our lads didn't give up and battled back with a pointed free by James Durkan and two points from play from Eoin Miller and Michael Ennis to leave just a goal between the sides with time almost up. However it wasn't going to be our day and while pressing forward for a late goal we were caught on a counter attack and The Downs got their insurance point and deservedly took both league points. This was a disappointing result for Ballinagore as it means that we are still in the relegation zone with only one game left to play against Castletown Finea/Coole/Whitehall. Training continues this week with indoor training on Wednesday night at half seven in Rochfortbridge and outdoor on Friday evening at eight o'clock. Team on Sunday: Marty Linnane, Peter Deegan, Enda McCann, Ciraran Deegan, Pat Heduan, Louis Ennis, Eddie Quinlan, Eoin Miller, Stuart Gavin, Cathal Ennis, Ciaran Carey, David Deegan, James Sheerin, Michael Ennis, James Durkan. Sub used: Shane Heraty.

2005 DIVISION 7 LEAGUE AND JUNIOR B CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH REPORTS

ACL Division 7, 5th December 2005

Ballinagore 2-07 Ballynacargy 5-12

We fielded an understrength second team last Sunday and were well defeated by Ballynacargy in a high scoring game in Ballinagore. Three quick fire goals by the visitors made our task impossible but fair play to our lads, they battled hard to the end and got some fine scores in the process. Team: Danny Maloney, Pierce Corcoran, Peter Deegan, Mark Claffey, Eddie Quinlan, Pat Heduan, Darren Ennis, Paul Robinson, Shane Heraty, David Deegan, Ian Seery, James Durkan, Ger Linnane, Ciaran Carey, Sean Delaney. Sub used: Gerry Claffey

Junior B Championship, 27th June 2005

Ballinagore 0-07 Shandonagh 1-11

We lost to Shandonagh in their pitch last Wednesday evening. We were short a number of players who are eligible for this competition and we really need more lads to show up to games and training for everyone to improve. Team: Danny Maloney, Ciaran Deegan, Pat Heduan, Pierce Corcoran, Louis Ennis, Peter Deegan, Paul Robinson, Stuart Gavin, Christy Maloney, Eddie Quinlan, Ian Seery, Darren Ennis, Mark Claffey, Sean Robinson, Declan Claffey.

Junior B Football Championship

We suffered a heavy defeat to a strong Kinnegad side last Tuesday week played in Kinnegad. We conceded two early goals in this game which had us on the back foot from early on. We missed quite a few scoring opportunities especially in the second half and then unfortunately conceded two late goals to let Kinnegad run out easy winners. That said we were missing quite a few who are currently sitting exams so we should be that bit stronger in future games. Best wishes to Ger Linnane who suffered a hamstring injury during the game. Team: Sean Delaney, JJ Hegarty, Pat Heduan, Ciaran Deegan, Danny Maloney, Eddie Quinlan, Pierce Corcoran, Christy Maloney, Paul Seery, Jason Winfield, Stuart Gavin, Darren Ennis, Gerry Claffey, Ger Linnane, Ian Seery. Subs (all used) Michael Maloney, Michael Gannon, Martin Seery.
