Minor Club Championship
The minors played the quarter-final of the Club 1 championship last Friday night under lights, at Coralstown/Kinnegad GAA grounds. Their opponents were St. Mary's Rochfortbridge and they brought a great tempo to their play, especially in the first half, and with the aid of the breeze they put our defence under severe pressure. It took the full half hour for our team to get to the pace of the game, and by half time they had eeked out a small advantage, leading by 1-7 to 1-5 at the break. St. Malachy's/Ballinagore took control in the second half with a great defensive effort and some good point scoring, and when Neal Kirby poked home a twentieth minute goal it spelt the end of the Rochfortbridge challenge. One of the St. Mary's players injured his knee in the fray and had to leave the field. We hope he makes a speedy recovery. Final score 2-13 to 1-7. Team: Liam Cassidy, Michael Heeney, Liam Varley, Niall Gunning (Capt.), Michael Dever, David Lynch, Enda Claffey, Aonghus Clarke, Shane Clavin 0-2, Alan Clarke 0-1, Eoin Quinn 0-1, Seán Mullarkey 1-0, Neal Kirby 1-4 (1f), Niall O'Brien 0-5 (2f), David Keegan. Subs Used: Alan Kincaid, Frankie Deegan, Cathal Tynan.
