We played the first round of the championship last Sunday afternoon in Rochfortbridge against Milltownpass. The first fifteen minutes were a very cagey affair with both teams trying to find their feet, and both sides taking the lead before settling on a 3 points apiece scoreline. Milltownpass again took the lead at this point with a pointed close range free, to leave the score 4 points to 3 in their favour. There followed a long delay after an injury to the Milltownpass number 12. When play resumed Ballinagore took control for the remainder of the half and scored three unanswered points, to lead at half-time by 6 points to 4. When play resumed Ballinagore remained on top for a period adding another point. However, Milltownpass now took over and scored two points to reduce the Ballinagore lead to one point, before scoring a timely goal to put them two points clear. They then scored two further points to stretch their lead to four. At this point the game changed direction again with Ballinagore gaining the majority of possession in the last twelve minutes, to reduce the deficit to one point with some fine approach play, and some well taken frees by Tommy McDaniel. But alas it was too late and time ran out, while Milltownpass ran out winners by 1-8 to 0-10. We play Shandonagh this Sunday in Moate at 2pm in the second round, and we will need to take something from this game beforte the ten week break. Team: Mark Doyle, James Keegan, Pat Heduan, Mark King, Michael Ennis 0-1, James Sheerin, Pierce Corcoran, Stewart Gavin, Eoin Miller, JJ Hegarty, Ciarán Carey, Cathal Ennis, Paddy Maloney, Tommy McDaniel 0-8 (6 frees), Ian Seery.
