The minor team took to the field in the sixth round of the league last Sunday morning in Tyrrellspass. We had a good start to the match scoring 1-2 without reply and looked set to continue in that fashion. However, we had a man sent off after ten minutes which evened out the contest, and the home side gained confidence from their numerical advantage, drawing level with some well taken scores including an excellent point from a line-ball. Both sides had opportunities to score throughout the remainder of the half but none were converted and the half-time score was 1-2 apiece. The second half began in a similar fashion to the end of the first, before Tyrrellspass struck for their second goal. This combined with some well taken frees left the home side with a five point advantage after three quarters of an hour. The minors battled back and drew level at 2-8 apiece having converted some fine points and a textbook penalty from Liam Cassidy, but Tyrellspass replied with two late frees to regain the advantage and it finished 2-10 to 2-8 in their favour. Team: Cathal Daly, Alan Kincaid, Michael Heeney, Stephen Fagan, David Pidgeon, Seán Mullarkey, Ryan Wright, Conor Glennon, Alan Clarke 0-4 (3f), Liam Cassidy 1-1 (1-0 pen), Kieran Glennon, David Keegan 0-1, Paddy Doody, Frankie Deegan 0-1, Pauric Kincaid 1-0. Subs: Eoin Quinn 0-1 for Ryan Wright, Eoin Mullarkey for Pauric Kincaid.
The Under 8's traveled to a blitz in Moate last Saturday morning where they played the home side, Garrycastle and Athlone. This was a very enjoyable event for all of the players and thanks to Moate for hosting such a well organised day.
Well done to Cathal Ennis who won a car in the Mullingar credit union draw recently. We are confident that Cathal will be on time for training from now on.
Congratulations to Lorna Seery (daughter of Tom and Vera) and Pádraig Flanagan who were married last weekend.
