Under 10 South Westmeath League Finals

Our Under 10 team had a great evening last Wednesday in Cusack Park when they played in the South Westmeath Finals. On a beautiful evening for football, we fielded two teams and played against Castledaly and Ballynacarrigy. Both of our teams gave it their all and played some great football. They have really improved especially over the last few weeks. Well done to everyone, keep it up! This team has a number of games left in the North Westmeath League so they will have plenty of football under their belts before the season ends. Training continues on Monday evenings at 6pm for Under 8, Under 10 and Under 12 panels. Team A: Ryan Corcoran, Shane Seery, Mark Kiernan, Ryan Boyne, Killian Bolger, Darragh Seery, Shane Corcoran, Mark Killian, Eleanor Murphy, Zack Wright. Team B: Sean Kincaid, Warwick Kirby, Cody Finnane, Conor Murphy, Cian Gavigan, Peter Reynolds, David Jackson, Philip Reynolds, Peter Murphy, Odhran Gavigan, Jack Fitzpatrick.

Senior League

We collected our first brace of points in the league last Friday evening in Tyrrellspass at the expense of the home side . This was a fine game of football from start to finish, played at a brisk pace with some hard hits and fine passages of play throughout. Ballinagore put in a very strong performance in the second half to turn a 0-04 to 0-03 half time deficit, into a three point lead midway through the second half. Tyrrellspass came back at us and reduced this lead to the minimum but our lads fought hard and held out for the win. Final Score Ballinagore 0-11, Tyrrellspass 0-9. This was an important win but we will need at least one more from our two remaining games in this division to remain safe. All efforts now turn to our next championship game against Shandonagh in a couple of weeks, so lets keep the numbers and intensity up at training until then. We have a few lads injured at the moment including Martin Crowe, James Sheerin, Brian Sheerin (from Friday) and Martin Linnane, and we wish them a speedy recovery. Team: Mark Doyle, Robert Gannon, Pat Heduan, Mark King, Dan Gavin 0-2, Michael Ennis 0-2, Kieran Deegan, Eoin Miller 0-3f, Stewart Gavin, Cathal Ennis 0-2, Ciarán Carey (Capt.) 0-2, Paul Maloney, Michael Gannon, Brian Sheerin, James Keegan. Subs used: Ian Seery, Declan Claffey, JJ Hegarty, Pierce Corcoran, Kevin Gannon. Rest of panel: Nollaig Gannon, Enda Claffey, David Slevin.

Lotto

The numbers drawn this week were 14, 15, 27 and 28. There was no jackpot winner and next weeks jackpot will be €13,020.

Westmeath Fleadh

Well done to the Ballinagore Half Set of Oliver Reynolds, Eileen Roche, Shane Heraty and Colette Claffey who qualified for the Leinster Fleadh in Enniscorthy this coming July. Congratulations to Niall Kelly in Guitar, Laura kelly in Sean Nós Dancing and Shane Heraty in Mens Singing (English), who all qualified for the Leinsters in their respective competitions. Thanks to Ballymore CCÉ for hosting such a great weekend and best of luck to all the musicians, singers and dancers who took part and qualified for the next round. No doubt we will meet them all again in Wexford.

Ballinagore's Big Day Out

The Big Day Out was held in glorious sunshine last Sunday afternoon in the park and was well attended. There were races of all descriptions, penalty shoot outs, pitch and toss, high catch, long kick and aunt sally. A marquee was specially erected in the car park where there were all sorts of fare for sale, including a well stocked Barbeque which had a steady custom throughout the afternoon. It was great to see such a large crowd with smiles all round, and a great sense of community spirit. Well done to all involved in organising the event from Ballinagore NS and Ballinagore GAA, and hopefully we will do it all again next year!

Members Draw

The draw was held at the Big Day Out and Deirdre Sheridan was the lucky winner of the Castletown Geoghegan Development Gala Banquet tickets for Middleton House. The tickets for Kilbeggan Races this Sunday were won by George Alexander, Kevin Deegan and Peter Heraty. Well done to all.

Cumann Na mBunscoil Final

Ballinagore NS played Raharney NS in the final of the Hurling competition, played at Cusack Park last Tuesday evening. Ballinagore opened the scoring with a point from Ciarán O'Brien after two minutes. This was followed by a goal and a point from Raharney despite some great defending by Ballinagore. No score came for a further spell before Raharney struck for another goal following an initial save by Ballinagore netminder Eoin Deegan. The Ballinagore custodian then pulled off a double save in the thirteenth minute before Ciarán O'Brien pointed from a free. This move was quickly followed by a superb point from full forward Pádraig Kane who scored from close to the sideline, having received the pass from Fiachra Heeney. Raharney responded with a goal and a point in quick succession before Ciarán O'Brien scored a long range point for Ballinagore. The game seemed to be slowing down coming up to half time but Pádraig Kane had other ideas and he slipped the ball past the Deelside goalie to leave the haft time score reading Raharney 3-2, Ballinagore 1-4. Raharney began the second half brighter scoring a goal after three minutes but this was responded to with a point by Pádraig Kane. The Ballinagore defence was under severe pressure at this point and three point blank saves from Eoin Deegan and three timely clearances by Jamie Hogg and Finian Heeney kept hopes of victory alive. A ninth minute Raharney goal put some distance between the teams but Ballinagore kept battling in every position on the field and were rewarded with two further points from Pádraig Kane. Ballinagore kept pressing at midfield and in the forwards but it was Raharney who finished stronger and capped a great victory with a well taken last minute goal.  Ballinagore can be proud of their performance with all six class boys giving their all, eagerly backed up by the younger boys on the  team. All in Ballinagore a proud of them and thanks to Pat O'Brien for his help and encouragement over the last few months.

Minors

The minor team took to the field in the sixth round of the league last Sunday morning in Tyrrellspass. We had a good start to the match scoring 1-2 without reply and looked set to continue in that fashion. However, we had a man sent off after ten minutes which evened out the contest, and the home side gained confidence from their numerical advantage, drawing level with some well taken scores including an excellent point from a line-ball. Both sides had opportunities to score throughout the remainder of the half but none were converted and the half-time score was 1-2 apiece. The second half began in a similar fashion to the end of the first, before Tyrrellspass struck for their second goal. This combined with some well taken frees left the home side with a five point advantage after three quarters of an hour. The minors battled back and drew level at 2-8 apiece having converted some fine points and a textbook penalty from Liam Cassidy, but Tyrellspass replied with two late frees to regain the advantage and it finished 2-10 to 2-8 in their favour. Team: Cathal Daly, Alan Kincaid, Michael Heeney, Stephen Fagan, David Pidgeon, Seán Mullarkey, Ryan Wright, Conor Glennon, Alan Clarke 0-4 (3f), Liam Cassidy 1-1 (1-0 pen), Kieran Glennon, David Keegan 0-1, Paddy Doody, Frankie Deegan 0-1, Pauric Kincaid 1-0. Subs: Eoin Quinn 0-1 for Ryan Wright, Eoin Mullarkey for Pauric Kincaid.

The Under 8's traveled to a blitz in Moate last Saturday morning where they played the home side, Garrycastle and Athlone. This was a very enjoyable event for all of the players and thanks to Moate for hosting such a well organised day.

Minors

The minor team took to the field in the fifth round of the league last Sunday morning in Pairc an Bhodhráin vs Maryland/Tang. This was the most entertaining minor game so far this year and the football played by both teams is to be commended. Playing against a very strong breeze in the first half the home side held their own until close to half time, when Maryland/Tang snatched a goal to give them an edge going into the second half, the score being 1-6 to 0-6 at the interval. The lads rallied and cleared the deficit before the visitors struck for another well taken goal. Once again the decks were cleared but amazingly Maryland/Tang struck for a third goal with seven minutes remaining. The natives once again made inroads into the lead but time was running out, and eventually it did with just the minimum between them at the finish. Final score 3-10 to 1-15 to the visitors. Team: Cathal Daly, Alan Kincaid, Enda Claffey, Stephen Fagan, David Pidgeon, Seán Mullarkey, David Keegan 0-1, Conor Glennon 0-2, Alan Clarke 0-1, Paddy Doody 0-1, Ciaran Glennon 1-6 (3f), Liam Cassidy 0-2, Eoin Mullarkey, Frankie Deegan 0-1, Pauric Kincaid 0-1. Senior League

We travelled to Moate last Sunday evening to play the home side in the fourth round of the league. Moate settled well and converted three of four early frees to give themselves a good lead. Ballinagore converted chances from Eoin Miller, Declan Claffey, Ian Seery and Pat Heduan to leave the half time score at 0-8 to 0-4 in favour of Moate. The second half was similar to the first with Moate being more clinical in the forward line from frees and open play. There were further points from Stewart Gavin, Eoin Miller and Ciarán Carey but it finished Moate 0-15, Ballinagore 0-8. There were some good performances from the backline and some players were returning from long spells on the sideline, but a lot more work needs to be done before the championship which begins in three weeks time. Team: Mark Doyle, Mark King, Martin Linnane, Robert Gannon, James Sheerin, Pat Heduan 0-1, Paul Maloney, Stewart Gavin, Eoin Miller 0-3f, Cathal Ennis, Dan Gavin, Brian Sheerin, Ciarán Carey (Capt.) 0-1, Ian Seery 0-1, Declan Claffey 0-1f.
